Our statement of faith
Second Baptist Church affirms the historic Christian faith as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, including belief in the Triune God, the authority of Scripture, that God made man, male and female, in his image, the deity and saving work of Jesus Christ, salvation by grace through faith, the work of the Holy Spirit, the Church, and the return of Christ.
Scripture
We confess that the Holy Scriptures are the inspired and authoritative Word of God and our final authority for faith, doctrine, and life.
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church and the true source of all that we are and do. The glory of Christ is the object of every act, function, and motive of our church, both individually and corporately.
Salvation by grace through faith
Membership in the one Church of all believers, across time and place, is based solely on the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit
Christ governs His Church through the Scriptures and by the leading of the Holy Spirit, who dwells in every believer.
The Church
We are more than an organization. We are a spiritual family and a community of faith in Jesus Christ.
The ordinances
We practice the two ordinances given by our Lord Jesus Christ to His Church: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These ordinances do not save, but they visibly proclaim and confirm the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Christ is the Head of His Church.

How we are led
Second Baptist is an autonomous local body of believers and is not subject to the authority or control of any outside denomination. Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church. Under His Lordship, the church is shepherded by a plurality of Elders, served by Deacons, and accountable to the congregation.
